This Charming Man Every Little Secret EP Released

Should things go well for me, I will have this in my collection shortly:

That my friends, is the limited This Charming Man Every Little Secret EP that Suburban Home Records was so generous to re-release.

Taken from the fine folk at Suburban Home Records (they said it better then I could have):

Previous to forming The Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon was the singer of the punk rock outfit This Charming Man. This Charming Man’s debut EP, “Every Little Secret” is filled with catchy sing-a-long hooks and unforgettable lyrics. “Every Little Secret” is the only documentation of this short lived band and this vinyl release not only has the 6 songs from the original release, but it also has 4 untitled demos that were never released. This release is extremely limited due to the fact that this will be 1 of the final 2 Vinyl Cooperative releases. The pressing is 333 on black vinyl, 667 on brown vinyl. Due to copies going directly to coop members, the band, and XoXo who released the record originally, there will only be around 70 copies on black and 500 copies on brown for sale. I would appreciate if if you did not buy more than 1 copy of each variant. Shopradiocastwill be the only place this record will be available other than possibly XoXo or Brian Fallon/Gaslight Anthem. There will be a test press contest to go along with this. Good luck.

The 70 black vinyl EPs apparently sold out in 20 minutes on Shopradiocast.  I am pretty sure I placed one of the first orders.  Lightning speed internet quickness ensured a quick order for this guy.  I was a tad excited to see this surface and wanted to make sure that I grabbed a copy.

There should be a few brown versions left if you are lucky.  This will be a sell out item.

If you fancy yourself a die-hard, try placing a bid on the test pressing of Every Little Secret on TheOldLP.com.

The Joy Formidable To Play Free Show Wednesday At The Rock Hall

Designed by the ever cool Aaron Seachrist @ okpants.com

In case you hadn’t heard, UK’s The Joy Formidable are going to be playing a show this Wednesday at the Rock Hall around 7pm.

Did I mention the show is FREE?  Well, you will need to cart your booty down to Cleveland one way or another, but you get the idea.

As part of the awesome Summer In The City Concert Series, The Joy Formidable and Cleveland’s very own HotChaCha will play in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum to everyone who shows up.  This series is a great way to check out new bands and just enjoy an evening in Cleveland for no charge.  I missed the first two already this summer, but will be sure to make it to this one.

I have the feeling this is going to be one of those shows that should not be missed.  I envision an all around good time already.  I know some of my pals from 92.3 Radio will be there as well as other good folk.

If you have not heard any material by the three-piece, 90s rock comparable sounding, female-fronted band yet, check out some videos below.  They’ve been around since 2008 and really have a sweet sound to them.  Rolling Stone recently nominated them as a band to watch.  Not to mention the lead female vocalist is a total fox…

(I did not know Roseanne had a cameo in this video)

The Awesome: Mixtapes (& Their Alter Ego, Wooky Stax)

Maybe it was the excessive beer intake last night, but I woke up this morning to the strangest dream I have had in a while.  Not to bore you with details, but the dream ended with me in a convertible telling Ryan of Cincinnati/Detroit pop-punk act Mixtapes about this other dream I had within the dream that involved a James Bond like India adventure.  He looked at me like I was high and then got mad at me when I asked him what it would take for him to sing me some Wooky Stax.

I took that as a calling today to write a little something something about Mixtapes as well as their alter ego known to many as Wooky Stax.

For those of you who do not know of the pop-punk act Mixtapes, you my friends are missing out.

The male and female front-kinda-sorta-duo sing about everything from thinking that Strung Out is a “mediocre version of the skate punk 90s” to not staying up all night and just kicking it at home drinking Diet Coke.  The band is unique in that they are not looking for the fame and do it for fun (well at least I think they do).  Most of their material has been released for free on the interwebs through various sites and they never seem to stop touring.  They also have a handful of 7″ vinyls out for all you collectors out there.

They are a prolific band you need to check out.  I’ve seen them live a couple times and it is a riot.

Then there is Wooky Stax…

Wooky Stax is Mixtapes’ alterego rap project.  I do not care what anyone says, I love it.  It is far from the greatest hip hop and probably was created as a joke to the ever so hardworking rap music industry (can you sense the sarcasim?).  Ryan and Maura do their best to rap over samples and honestly…it’s kind of catchy and it’s hella free.

Wagons Return To Cleveland!!!

I just learned today that Melbourne, Australia’s  Wagons will be returning to the states this September!  After missing my chance to see Henry Wagons and his band at SXSW, the band announced that they will be back in the US touring in support of their soon to be released album Rumble, Shake and Tumble. They are even making a stop in Cleveland on Sept. 11th at the Beachland Tavern.

I caught Henry playing a solo last year when he opened for Those Darlins at the Beachland Tavern and I became an instant fan.  He told me later that night that he could not wait to bring the rest of his band back to the states and started telling me about all the American food he was digging.  He was a funny and genuine guy.  If you like your music a little bit of country rock a’la Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and are just looking to be rowdy and have fun, you should not miss this show.

Check out the video for “I Blew It” off of their album that should be dropping on August 16th:

I plan on not missing this show.  Of course this will be taking place the day after Warrior Dash which I have decided to attempt…  I think I will be fine…

What the hell am I thinking??? Stay tuned for the results on that one.

Those Darlins Return To Cleveland This Fall

You know, it’s been a while since I mentioned the southern bell brat pack also known as Those Darlins…  Might as well pimp them out now for a moment while I have your attention.

Many Cleveland fans were bummed to learn that Those Darlins dropped off the bill last June.  They opted to do so in order to perform a benefit show, so I guess we can not be too mad at them.

Regardless, they have yet to make a stop in Cleveland in 2011 and it looks like this Fall will be the next time they drop by.

On October 12th, Those Darlins will be playing a show at the Grog Shop with Peelander-Z.  Can you say awesome!?!?

Stay cool Cleveland.  The girls and Lynwood will see you in a few months…

Speaking of awesome…  Looks like the girls and Lynwood are getting some well-deserved attention:

Too bad I would never drive that toaster in public.
